2s drawn against Sparsholt in National Village Cup Round 1

The draw for this year’s Voneus Village Cup has taken place with nearly 350 clubs entering the 50th edition of the tournament.

The draw, which usually takes place in the MCC committee room at Lord’s, was held remotely this year due to the ongoing lockdown.

Simon Hughes, editor of The Cricketer, delivered the news via a video posted on nationalvillagecup.com, Twitter, and YouTube.

Hook & Newnham Basics were drawn away at SPCL Division 1 side Sparsholt in the first round tie due to take place on Sunday 25 April. Due to player eligibility rules in the competition, this will be a 2s fixture captained by Kevin Light.

The game will give the team an insight into Southern Premier League cricket, a week before their Division 3 opener against Gosport Borough.

The final, as ever, will be held at Lord’s on September 19.
